Early Childhood Website

The San Carlos Early Childhood Program is committed to providing a comprehensive child development education program for expectant families, children birth to five years of age, and their families, through the employment of competent and qualified staff, volunteers, and effective community partnerships. This is accomplished by providing comprehensive educational, nutritional, health, social, and other services determined necessary by family needs assessment. Our programs are designed to support and strengthen the parents’ role as the primary educator of their child as families move towards economic and personal self-sufficiency.  For over fifty years, the San Carlos Apache Tribe has provided Head Start and beginning in 2017 Early Head Start services for 233 children ages 3-5, 75 infants and toddlers, and pregnant women.

Mission Statement

The San Carlos Apache Head Start program uses a holistic approach to ensure children are cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally prepared to continue to make progress as they enter kindergarten. This approach is founded on the belief that every aspect of comprehensive support for children’s school readiness, including curriculum and instruction, health and nutrition, and parental engagement is essential. As part of this the program intends to expose children and families to the public school culture and structure earlier in the child’s academic continuum.

Vision

The Head Start program services every eligible child of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, including programming aimed at the unique needs of vulnerable children and families. The success of the San Carlos Apache Head Start program is defined by accomplishing both long and short-term goals in six areas (Language and Literacy, Cognition and General Knowledge, Approaches toward Learning, Social and Emotional Development, and Parental/Family Engagement). It is the objective of the program that every child who attends reaps the lifelong benefits of early childhood education.
